Tequila Too - Halibut with Deep Water Bottom Fishing
This trip is not for the faint of heart. Travel distance offshore can be up to 35 miles. Typically, we are fishing in depths up to 600 feet or more. Most vessels have customers fish in rotation in waters this deep to prevent line entanglement and loss of fish already hooked on another line. If time and weather permit, which it usually does, we fish for deep water lingcod and/or rockfish on the return to port. A typical trip length is 11 hours.

The Westport Halibut fishery (Area 2) is very short, 3 to 5 days is all we can expect. We could catch the quota in 2-3 days, if the fish are large. (Halibut quotas are based on weight, not fish count.)
Please make your reservations early (even up to a year in advance) to ensure your spot.
We cast off on Halibut trips at 4:30am if everyone is on the boat. Our trip will take us on the Pacific Ocean to the edge of the continental shelf. Approximately 37 miles off-shore.
Bringing one of these big fish up from over 500 feet of water is an experience you will not soon forget. When your Halibut limits are reached early, we will take you lingcod and or rockfish fishing. We can keep lingcod while Halibut fishing now too! We will tie back up at the dock in Westport between 4:00 and 5:00 PM. Be sure to ask for the Tequila Too when you make your reservations! Please think about buying a derby ticket as the Tequila Too landed the Season Derby winner two out of the last four years.
Halibut Fishing on Tequila Too We generally back-troll into the current fishing so your line goes straight down. You must feel the weight of your sinker the whole way down, as the first person to the bottom loose line can take all the lines on the boat out. We will generally fish 9 lines and rotate customers through as they catch a halibut. We know it's crap to have to sit around and wait to fish; but, you are fishing very, very deep water and you don't want a 100-lb fish to wrap around another line a few feet away from you. Imagine fishing from the top of the Space Needle side-by-side with currents and wind. So, don't focus on just fishing - enjoy your day, the sea, the adventure, and the boat. |

Enjoy the experience of being on the Pacific Ocean
We will fish for a boat limit with everyone catching a Halibut our first priority and the people with the smallest fish getting a chance to catch a bigger one our second priority. To do this we will usually have the people with the biggest fish take a break so the others can catch up. You may get to fish again later if your bigger halibut becomes one of the smaller ones. The crew will keep the smallest fish so we can upgrade you. We will not be fishing until each and every person is satisfied with the size of their fish, because waiting for one person to catch their own personal "Big 'Un" would waste hours of rockfish or lingcod fishing on the way home, and they might not catch one anyway; although, we may release a few small fish if fishing is good. |
NOTE: Handheld GPS Policy: Please ask permission before bringing a handheld GPS on board halibut trips as we would rather refund you than loose a good fishing spot.
