Westport Bottom Fishing on Tequila Too
The Tequila on a bottom fishing trip. (Yeah, the Tequila)
That skinny young man is Ken. The boy is his son, Sean. |
Climb aboard Tequila Too and join us for an amazing bottom fishing day you won't soon forget.
We spent the first 13 years with the first Tequila specializing in rockfish and lingcod seven days a week, while everyone else was salmon fishing. So, we have had as much, or more time, bottom fishing than anyone in Westport (if practice means anything)! Our scheduled departure time is 7am. We would like to cast off by 630am, if everyone is on the boat, checked in, holding a derby ticket, and ready to go! |
Depending on where we decide to fish that day, it usually takes us 1- to 2- hours to run to the fishing grounds. We will start the day fishing for Rockfish with a daily limit of 7! If they are really biting you can catch your limit of 7 in less than an hour! From June 16 on (usually) The Tequila Too specializes in fishing for Yellowtail Rockfish in deeper water! These offshore Rockfish eat more shrimp and are preferred by many to Black Rockfish. They can be of a slightly larger size average too. |

After rockfish limits are caught, we will shift gear for the coveted Lingcod. These voracious toothy critters are the Trophy of the Day.
Beginners & Kids are Always Welcome Bottom Fishing is an excellent trip for kids of all ages - from 5 yrs old to 75, this is a great way to start out, if you've never fished on the deep blue sea. Our crew is happy to show you how to catch the small 'un and the trophy Big 'Uns! There is always a lot of action, and the tender white fillets are perfect for beer-battered fish 'n chips. Most prefer the tender white meat over that of the pink salmon meat. We hope to see you this year for some exciting Rockfish and Lingcod fishing action. |

Our daily goal is to return to the docks with the most ling and the largest ling - preferably caught by someone who purchased a Derby Ticket.
Please buy your $5 Derby Ticket. We try to go the extra mile to find derby fish. If you don't win that day, the proceeds help to keep our fishing open on the ocean. We want Tequila Too on the Derby Board!

Light Tackle and Braided Line
Light tackle is great fun when the current is down and the rockfish are up. We are not gearing where we fish to light tackle as our primary goal is Lingcod fishing later, and we may be fishing 300' if that is where we can get the biggest Rockfish the fastest, or it is closer to where the Lings are biting.
You are welcome to bring your own Light gear for Rockfish and use it if it is suitable for the way we are fishing. Our goal is to usually fish for our Rockfish Boat Limit first and as fast as possible so we can have the maximum amount of time left for Lingcod Fishing. Light tackle is not always suited to Yellowtail rockfish fishing in deeper water. If your gear is unsuitable you can always use ours.

Please don't bring Spider Wire/Tuff Line or other braided line for Rockfish as it slices other angler's lines and fish. Also, tangles are near impossible to undo when a fish is involved. 80-lb Spider Wire, Tuff Line or other braided line is great for working lingcod jigs while we are targeting lings, but not rockfish. If you use any of these types of tackle, when we are not, you'll be asked to fish on the bow, so you don't interfere with the other lines. Rod rental is included in the price, if you feel your gear is insufficient or you wanna give ours a try. Don't forget your Deckhands after this full day of fishing. They work harder than you can know for fillet fees and tips. Like a waitress, only these guys are with you up to 10 hours and never miss a beat! |
