Westport Salmon Fishing

The 2008 Salmon season will open June 1st for a One King Limit, Early "Kings Only" Season.  The last time we opened this early in 2002 the fishing was Hot.  Judging by the early catches we have had of Kings this year, 2008 should be Good too!  If we reach our King Limit early and there are some Rockfish schools nearby, we will make a drift and catch a few.  Remember we offer 11 Hr Rockfish Salmon Combo Trips every Sunday during salmon season and weekdays by request if you would like a limit of Rockfish with your King Salmon. With Fresh Troll caught King Salmon prices expected to reach $40 a pound this year this is a great opportunity  to reel in some fresh seafood.

The Regular Salmon Season opens June 29th With a 2 fish limit, one of which can be a King.  This season could go quick with good fishing so we recommend making a reservation before the end of July.  With slow fishing the season could last until September 13, this is not likely.   Both seasons are open Sunday-Thursday

We will depart Salmon fishing by 6:00 AM. Be on the boat by 5:30 AM.  Experience the thrilling raw power of a Big King Salmon on the end of your line or the acrobatics of a bright Pacific Ocean Silver. You may end up following them around the boat a time or two before they are landed! You return to Westport Between 3:00 and 4:00 PM unless limits are reached early. Don't forget to by a derby ticket!  Please remember to Request the Tequila Too when making your reservations.

If you are looking for an extra full day of fishing, come aboard the Tequila Too for a  Sunday 11 Hr. Combo Trip. (available for private groups weekdays by request) Combo Trips leave the dock at 5:00AM sharp, we will usually target Rockfish first, (Limits of 10 per person are usual)  and the rest of the day will be spent Salmon fishing. (unless limits are reached early) The boat returns to the dock just before 5:00 PM so any Big Uns can be entered in the Daily Salmon and Bottom Fish derby.    If you want it all, call now to book a Sunday Combo trip. Space fills up fast for these full day adventures.

How we fish on the Tequila  Too:  We will generally drift fish (mooching) rather than troll as this allows you to work your bait and entice your fish to bite rather than letting the boat hook it trolling.  We will troll under certain conditions however be prepared to crank your bait to catch a fish.  We fish for a boat limit, you can keep fishing until the boat limits and you may catch three or more Salmon if it is your lucky day!  You are encouraged to hand off fish to someone with you if they have not caught one yet.  If limits will be reached early, we will usually have everyone take a break that have caught fish so the ones that have been trying hard and have not  caught a "keeper" yet can catch one of their own.  The smallest fish will go to the crew so we can upgrade you.  The crew does not keep fish unless the boat limits.  You are welcome to bring your own gear. At least 20 lb test is recommended, good quality 25 or 30 is better in case the fish rubs the line on the bottom.  Light rods are great.  Please don't bring Spider Wire or Tuff Line or other braided line as it cuts off other peoples fish and the tangles are near impossible to undo when a fish is involved. We have also found the lack of stretch looses more fish.  It is ok if there are just a few people on the boat.  Rod rental is included in the price so we will have a rod for you if you feel yours is unsuitable.

Marking your rod holder or spot:  You may mark your fishing spot on the boat the afternoon before your trip or in the morning subject to the following conditions.  The Deckhand or Skipper must be present.  Please ask permission and do not get aboard or mark spots when the Gate is shut or crew are not present. The crew knows which spots we will be fishing in to be the most efficient and avoid tangles depending on the size of group.  People fishing for more than one day may already have claim to a spot whether it is marked yet or not.  We may ask you to move slightly to accommodate persons of disability or to keep families together.
