Westport Halibut Fishing on the Tequila Too

We cast off on Halibut trips at 5:00 Am sharp. Our trip will take us on the Pacific Ocean to the edge of the continental shelf. Bringing one of these big fish up from over 500 feet of water is an experience you will not soon forget. When your Halibut limits are reached early, we will take you Rockfish and or Lingcod fishing. We will tie back up at the dock in Westport between 4:00 and 5:00 PM.  Be sure to ask for the Tequila Too when you make your reservations!  Please think about buying a derby   ticket as the Tequila Too landed the Season Derby winner two out of the last four years.

Handheld GPS policy: Please ask permission before bringing a handheld GPS on board Halibut fishing as we would rather refund you than loose a good spot.

How we fish on the Tequila Too: We back troll into the current fishing so your line goes straight down.  You must feel the weight of your sinker the whole way down as the first one to the bottoms loose line can take all the lines on the boat out.  We will generally fish 9 lines and rotate customers through as they catch a Halibut.  We hate this more than you do but with other boats fishing 20+ people, its a derby fishery and we have to, to get at least some of our customers out there. We will fish for a boat limit with everyone catching a Halibut our first priority and the people with the smallest fish getting a chance to catch a bigger one our second priority.  To do this we will usually have the people with the biggest fish take a break so the others can catch up.  You may get to fish again later if your bigger Halibut becomes one of the smaller ones.  The crew will keep the smallest fish so we can upgrade you.  We will not be fishing until each and every person is satisfied with the size of their fish, because waiting for one person to catch their own personal BigUn would waste hours of Rockfish and Lingcod fishing on the way home, and they might not catch one anyway. although we will release some small fish (high-grade) if fishing is good,  Please don't bring Spider Wire or Tuff Line or other braided line as it cuts off other peoples fish and the tangles are near impossible to undo when a fish is involved. It is hazardous to the running gear of the boat also. If you have your own rod please have 50 lb Dacron as other diameters will cause tangles back trolling.  Because of the short season we are full and can not waste time caused by incompatible lines. Rod rental is included in the price if you feel yours is unsuitable.

Marking your rod holder or spot:  You may mark your fishing spot on the boat the afternoon before your trip or in the morning subject to the following conditions.  The Deckhand or Skipper must be present.  Please ask permission and do not get aboard or mark spots when the Gate is shut or crew are not present. The crew knows which spots we will be fishing in to be the most efficient and avoid tangles depending on the size of group.  People fishing for more than one day may already have claim to a spot whether it is marked yet or not.  We may ask you to move slightly to accommodate persons of disability or to keep families together.
