I would like to thank all of you that made our 2006 season a success. especially those of you that supported us through the slowest Salmon fishing on record. we have had the best Salmon fishing ever in Westport and the slowest on record, all in the last five years. The early signs for next years Salmon fishing look good so keep your fingers crossed! Every other fishery we have was fantastic! The Halibut fishing was the best with limits of large fish the whole short season and we went Bottomfishing afterwards every trip but one. (We are taking reservations now for next year as the Quota might be caught in 12 days or so.) Lingcod fishing was great with better than 1 per person and lots of BigUn's, and we had Limits of Rockfish every trip! We had another phenomenal Tuna Year and averaged 17 Albacore per person on our 8 person limited load trips! Our customers won two of the Grand prizes in the derby for the biggest Halibut and the biggest Tuna of the year and had 18 winners. (many more if everyone had bought a derby ticket.) Thanks again to all of you who have fished with us in the past, we look foreword to seeing you next year! ~Ken and the Crew of the Tequila Too |

Wednesday we had limits of nice Yellowtails and 12 Lings with a 17 lb Derby winner. salmon was slow Thursday and Friday with 1/4 fish per Rod, had the derby winning salmon Friday with no derby ticket. Today we had a great Combo Trip with limits of Yellowtail Rockfish and 12 Salmon for 15 at the rods. Never seen this before! A Double! A guy hooked a fish and someone else's leader was wrapped up around his mainline. we broke the leader off at the sinker and let it slide down his line. The next thing we knew a hatchery Silver was running up and down his mainline. We netted the Silver when it came close enough and the leader pulled right off his line, the other fish was still on, a 32 Lb dressed King that won the Derby today! ~Ken |

We have spots left on our September 6th and 13th Tuna Trips, and fishing has been hot 100+ fish per boat on 1 1/2 and 2 day trips. Check here for more info. Salmon fishing slowed down some, 1/4 to 3/4 fish a rod on the average. We has limits of rockfish and 6 salmon (2 Kings, one around 30 lbs) on our combo trip today. I think it will pick back up this week, there are some nice 30-40+ lb Kings around. The lingcod fishing slowed down also, not many caught Friday anywhere, Rhett found a spot with some Saturday. ~Ken |

Sill slow, lots of fish around, we had 12 Silvers and a King for 19 Customers today some natives and lost some too, I lost three on my rod, I should leave the fishing to you. We had more Kings on our Combo trip and lost some nice ones, overall the weekend was slow, I don't think any boat got a dozen fish on Sunday. Thank you to all of you that have been out Salmon fishing with us despite it being slow so far. We appreciate your support tremendously. ~Ken |

Salmon are still biting slow, with boats bringing in 1/2 to 1+ fish a rod. The weather change put them off the bite yesterday and moved them closer to the harbor. The fishing picked up this afternoon when we found them. We have had bad luck loosing a lot of fish this past week except for our Sunday combo when we landed 13. Yesterday we landed 10 (5 Kings 12-27 lbs) had 14 native silvers (bad nativeitis) and had 13 more hooked up fish that we lost for 15 fishing. Today we had Rockfish limits, 17 Lings for 8 lines fishing and the Derby winner at 23 Lbs. Check out the new BigUn Photos ~Ken |

Still lots of salmon around. limits of big Black Rockfish today and 30 lings for 22 trying. ~Ken |

Limits of Yellowtail Rockfish and 21 Lings for 10 Fishing today! The BigUn won the derby at 32 lbs. Yesterday we had 9 Salmon for 18 fishing, 7 for 13 on Wednesday. Good Lingcod fishin today with 18 for 13 lines in the water. I think we won the derby with a 30 Lb 12 Oz Ling and we had a 26 Lb 11 Oz one too. The salmon week finished up spotty as I said below (see 7-11). We landed 5 Salmon for 7 Lines fishing Wednesday and 7 for 14 Passengers Thursday. There are still a lot of fish around and I think it will be great fishing when they go on the bite. More Silvers this week, they are bigger than usual for this time. 7-10 Lbs on the average. ~Ken |

The Salmon bite is still spotty with 1/2 to better than 1 fish a rod depending on how your day went. We have lost a lot of hooked up fish lately. We had limits of Rockfish, a couple Lings and 6 Salmon for 21 fishing on our combo trip Sunday. Yesterday the whole fleet went down to the Columbia to find out the fishing wasn't any better down there and less Kings too. I hope we don't go there again for another couple of years. Today we landed 6 Fish for 9 people, I caught a King about 28 Lbs so they are biting good enough that anyone can catch one. ~Ken |
|

Today we had 24 Salmon for 20 fishing, I think we should have had a lot more if we had more cranking going on. 15 were Kings 10- 24 1/2 Lbs (dressed weight) the largest took $400 as the daily derby winner. There are a lot more salmon around than last year at this time. If they go on the bite it will be hot fishing. We had slow fishing Tuesday and Wednesday, although we did win the Bottomfish derby yesterday with a Ling. Check out the new BigUn Photos. ~Ken |

Lingcod fishing was Hot for us this weekend. We Caught 49 lingcod in 4 drifts on Saturday and never had one small enough to measure. The biggest was 29 lbs. We went on a Deepwater Trophy Lingcod Trip on Sunday and most of our fish were in the 22-27 lb range. We had limits but the current made landing a real big one difficult. The colder water is moving in and we are seeing some Salmon everyday. Check out the new BigUn Photos. ~Ken |

Halibut fishing is still HOT. Our fish have been in the 25 to 60 lb range with most going between 30-50 lbs. One on every line is not uncommon. Our biggest today was 56 lbs, and 61lbs yesterday. One busted off that was around 90 lbs yesterday. We caught 10 Lings and a few Rockfish today on the way home. With the size of fish we are catching, the quota will go quicker if fishing doesn't slow down, I would come on or before the 18th of May to be on the safe side. Check back for updates. ~Ken |

Take our new shorter survey and get a "Take a friend discount" coupon for Bottomfishing trips or weekday Halibut Trips. Our survey was not working for a while, it is now, sorry. It was great to see everyone at the Sportsman's shows, thanks to all who stopped by. Here is what we are looking forward to for 2006: Rockfish and Lingcod Fishing: Our Lingcod fishing has been getting better and better ever year and the stock is considered rebuilt by the PFMC. Our biggest Ling in 2005 was 38 Lbs, and we are seeing more large fish over 25 Lbs than we have in a long time. The Lingcod limit is still two. The Rockfish limit is still ten fish, and limits are still the norm. March thru April are the best months for Lingcod, however June, July, September and October have been good also the last few years. Halibut Fishing: Our Quota for 2006 is expected to be around 4000 lbs more than last year. Overall last year was some of the best fishing we have seen yet so I would book a trip before Memorial Day weekend as we may be closed by then. Our biggest fish for 2005 was 90 lbs missing the year end derby by ½ an Oz. We will continue to stop and fish for Rockfish and Lingcod on the way home (time Permitting) Trips will usually be limited to 14 Fishing so everyone can fish at once. Salmon Fishing: “The good news is that oceanographers now say that the ocean may have turned around once again as it did in 1999. Colder water seems to be heading north, which should improve returns, maybe for several years in a row.” (NW Fishletter #207) We had some good King fishing last year with a fair amount of fish over 25 Lbs. We are due for a good run of fish right out front, close to the Harbor. We should know about Salmon Season by mid April. Our best guess is that the Season will open July 3rd and last 6-8n weeks. People always ask when the best time to come fishing is. The standard answer is "when they are biting", followed with "it changes every year". You can look back through the Captn's Log fishing report archives to spot trends here. |
