2003

report date from 10/14/03

We are done fishing for the year.  It was a great year for whatever you were fishing for.  Next year indications are pointing to another great year.  So start making plans now for next year.  We try and start running our first Bottom Fishing trips by March 15th.  The Salmon season is normally determined in May.  Start checking the website early next year for fishing date updates.  Thanks to everyone who fished with us this year and we will see you all again next year!  ~Ken

report date from 9/14/03

Today is the last day for Salmon.  We ended the season with limits as the norm.  Big hook nose Silvers up in the mid-teens were not uncommon to catch.  It was one great Salmon season with more big Kings I've seen caught on a regular basis in a long time.  Early indications are saying next year is going to be even better.  So if you missed this year, you don't want to miss next year.  We are now going to be finishing out the rest of this year with our Bottom Fishing trips.  This will continue until at least mid-October.  Hope to see you out on the water soon.  ~Ken

report date from 8/24/03

The Silvers are here!  The silvers are here and they are hungry.  Everyday last week  everyone got their limits if they were fishing.  Kings in the 40lb range are a common site.  The Silvers are nice sized as well.  We landed two 18lb hook nose silvers a couple weeks ago.  The season is going to run until September 14th.  You still have time to book a trip so you can experience the thrill everyone is having this year at Westport.  ~Ken

report date from 8/6/03

Fishing was hot last week where I limited my boat permit for the first time with 64 Salmon.  It has cooled off a little bit this week  Every day is a different story.  Right now we are averaging a little more than 1 fish a person.  The people catching the fish are the ones working their bait all day.  If you let your pole sit in the holder you might have a long day.  The Rockfish are still biting well with limits around.  We are still picking up the Lingcod here and there as well.  We would have won the Derby for Bottom Fish this last Sunday if the person had a Derby Ticket.  We are expecting the season to last until the September 14th date.  Space is limited as my trips do fill up fast.  I'll see you on the water.  ~Ken

report date from 7/22/03

The Kings have arrived.  The big Kings that have been predicted are finally showing up.  We have had several Kings in the 30lb range daily with one that would of been a new season leader if they had a derby ticket.  Customers are getting their limits if they work they keep cranking their bait.  That is the key to going home with fish or not.  Bottom fishing is still very productive.  Limits of Black Rockfish with a few Lings mixed in is still the rule.  Book now for you chance of the BIG kings that are now here.  ~Ken

report date from 7/8/03

We have been getting our limits everyday this week so far.  Today was about 1/3 Kings, but one the Kings is now the season leader.  It weighed in at 43lbs in the round, 37lbs 4ozs Dressed.  You can view the picture in the Big'Un page.  There was a correction is the last report.  Kings were 1/3 to 1/2 of the catch last week not 1/2 to 2/3's which was typed in error.  ~Ken

report date from 7/5/03

We're averaging about 1 3/4 Salmon per person right now.  Kings are 1/3 to 1/2 of the catch right now.  The Kings are starting to show in the 30lb+ range. (Dressed weight)  Be sure to buy your Derby ticket!  We've had people with the derby winning fish and not win because they didn't buy the $5 derby ticket.  Bottom Fishing is still very productive.  Limits on Black Rockfish with Lingcod still available for the catching.  Our last trip out we landed eight Lings but had the opportunity to have 18 in the boat.  You can still schedule a Bottom Fishing trip on Friday's and Saturday's.   ~Ken

report date from 6/27/03

The first week of Salmon fishing is over.  The weather made it a little rough out here but we were able to get our limits most days.  It's about a split catch of Kings and Silvers.  The Big'un so far is a 27lb King.  (Dressed weight)  Salmon fishing very popular here and trips fill up fast, call now to reserve your spot on the Tequila Too.  ~Ken

report date from 6/20/03

This week we spent time getting the boat ready for the opening day of Salmon.  We are expecting  a great season!  With high returns of Coho and Chinook expected, there should be some nice Big'uns coming in.  We will be Salmon fishing Monday through Thursday, with Sunday’s trip being a 12 hour combo trip for Rockfish and Salmon.  Fridays and Saturdays we will be fishing for Rockfish and Lingcod as usual.  See you on the water!  ~Ken

report date from 6/06/03

The Halibut are biting and limits are still the rule.  The Big'un this last week was 62lbs.  One trip we were able to also limit on Lingcod and 6 Black Rockfish apiece.  On our Bottom Fishing trips, we've been getting our limits of Black Rockfish with an average of 1+ Lingcod a person.   The Halibut quota is winding down but Salmon season is right around the corner.  Book now for the June 22nd opener!  ~Ken

Live anchovies are in for Bottom Fishing!  Black Rockfish go crazy for this bait and today was no different.  After we limited on Rockfish we were able to land a half dozen Lingcod and a Cabazon as well.  Limits of Halibut was the rule of thumb this last week.  We are around the half way mark on the quota.  There are plenty of Big'uns to be caught!  ~Ken

report date from 5/18/03

What a day!  Having a 114lb Halibut laying on the deck with a couple of 50lb'ers laying next to is a nice site.  We extended our season leading Halibut weight with the 114lb Halibut.  The Halibut are still biting with a prediction of only a couple more weeks of fishing left in the quota.  We are getting our limits of Yellowtail Rockfish on our Bottom Fishing trips with average of one Lingcod per person as well.  You'll want to call now to get scheduled in the final couple weeks of this years Halibut season.  ~Ken

report date from 5/14/03

The Halibut bite has slowed down a little over the last couple days.  Yesterday we did land a new season leading Halibut weighing in at 71lbs!  Today we got our limit of Halibut with a few incidental Lingcod, Black Cod and Rockfish in the mix as well.  Today's Big'un weighed in at a nice 55lbs with a 48lb Halibut as a close second.  At the current catch rates, they are predicting Halibut season to last until approximately June 7th.  That doesn't leave too many fishing days left if you want to catch one of these delicious fish for yourself.  ~Ken

report date from 5/8/03

Now that the first full week of Halibut fishing is over, things are starting to get exciting.  Today we had a pair big'uns pushing 50lbs each.  After everyone had their limits, we ended the day with a mixed bag of Lingcod and Rockfish as a bonus.   Yesterday was the same story on Halibut with the big'un weighing in at a nice 43lbs.  We were able to stop and pick up our limit of Lingcod with one weighing in at a hefty 28lbs.  I hope to see everyone out here soon to take advantage of this exciting fishing opportunity.  ~Ken

report date from 5/5/03

We started the 2003 season off with limits of Halibut and a “Big’un” weighing in at 55 lbs (it would have won the derby but unfortunately a derby ticket wasn’t purchased).  Today was no different with another deck full of Halibut with the “Big’un” weighing in at 40 lbs.  We had to cruise out further today to get to the Halibut, but it paid off as again the boat limited with even a few Black Cod caught too.  We had enough time to pick up about 1+ Lingcod per person on our way back in, as an added bonus.  These are the types of days we like to see here.  The Halibut have been averaging about 25 lbs so far this year.  I will try to keep you updated in this new section as much as possible.  Keep checking back for updates from recent trips.   ~Ken
